We figured out the problem with the internet. The AC adapter that powers the thingy the DSL line plugs into broke under its own weight and snapped. We got a new adapter and now the internet's working again!
The only bad thing is I realize how dependent I am on it: it took me a minute to figure out how to look up the phone number to call RadioShack since I don't know where, if we even have a phonebook, to look for it.
