In S.S. we are talking about Haiti and my teacher was interested in why the U.S. had an economic interest. She gave us an extra credit assignment to find out, but she had time and she looked up the information herself. She had though it might be sugar cane, but it wasn't. It was cheap factory labor. Some are only paid 14 cents an hour. That means they make less a week than me, and some people have to turn to prostitution just to support their families. Its sad. They also sent people there to see if they could live on it, this research group, and they said it was difficult. Here we are taking advantage of people. It is the American way. And trade and labor laws allow it because some of the stuff was done in the U.S., so they can write Made in the U.S.A. on the label. They don't have to write Assembled in Haiti.
